Jdg 6:15  And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house. 

Jdg 6:16  And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.

Talk about having your back!  The LORD has literally just told Gideon that He has his back and he will kick Midianite butt. 

Carefully read verse 15 and you get the sense that Gideon is just a regular man trying to make ends meet, and not only that, Gideon feels he is the least of his own household. Imagine how you would feel if someone told you that you would lead an army to smite your enemies, and you aren’t even able to be considered the head of your own house.  

That is a very large gap to bridge.  Alas, anything is possible with God! Even for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle.

If you read further in the story of Gideon however, you will see that is exactly what happened. He trusted the word of God, followed His instructions, and Gideon led an army to drive out the Midianites and lead Israel. God is not concerned with where you start your journey in life, He is concerned with who you are and how you live and how well you follow God’s instructions.  If you can do these things, it doesn’t matter how weak or unimportant you think you are – GOD IS WITH YOU AND FOR YOU.  And if that is the case – WHO CAN BE AGAINST YOU?  Nobody.

Rely on God no matter where you think you stand in life. You can and will do great things when you are on God’s side.
